Mysore silk, Assam silk and banana pith silk: what is the difference?

Our silk range is made of three light silks from three places. They look different on the body and in the hand, and they are woven in different towns.

What is Mysore silk?

Mysore silk is a smooth, light silk with a woven zari border and a striped pallu. Ours is woven by hand in Mysuru, Karnataka, and a saree takes about six days on the loom.

What is Assam silk?

Assam silk is a light silk with embroidered motifs. In ours, scalloped and diamond stitch work runs along the border, and a large motif sits on the pallu. It is woven in Sualkuchi, Assam, and takes about eight days on the loom.

What is banana pith silk?

Banana pith silk is new to our looms. It is a light silk, soft in the hand and easy to drape, with small buttas, a woven border and a striped pallu. It is woven in Madurai.

How do I choose between them?

Look at the border first. Mysore silk carries gold zari, Assam silk carries embroidery, and banana pith silk has a woven border in contrast colours. Then look at the pallu in the photos on each saree page: every saree is shown as a whole drape, then the border, the pallu and the blouse piece.
